The first year we started at the south end and worked north, which meant we finished at nine o'clock on a quiet residential block with no way home. Nobody could get a car. Two people walked forty minutes. We flipped it the next year and never looked back.
Now the route runs north to south: donations get collected at the top, while everyone is sober and feeling generous, and the night ends at 38th where rideshare actually works and the bus still runs.
The other thing we learned: October's First Friday is the season finale of the Tennyson Cultural Walk, and a few thousand people are already on our exact route. For free. So this year we deliberately overlap it instead of wrapping up as it starts.
Everything else is the same as it's always been. Orange suit. Yellow mustache. One street. One good cause. Bring a spare mustache — the glue gives out around stop two.
All proceeds
They're on the same street we're drinking on — school, therapy and housing for kids coming out of abuse and neglect. Everything collected at check-in goes to them. Nothing gets skimmed for costs, and we publish the total after the crawl.
